16-Year-Old From Camden City Arrested & Charged With First-Degree Felony Murder & Weapons Charges In Connection With Shooting That Killed One & Injured Another

Detectives are looking for assistance in identifying a second suspect involved in this homicide.

An arrest has been made in connection to a shooting that killed one man and injured another on August 15, 2023, in Camden City, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.

On the morning of August 29, 2023, a 16-year-old male was arrested in Camden by the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force – Camden Division.

The juvenile male from Camden was charged with first-degree Felony Murder and weapons charges. He is being held at the Lakeland Juvenile Detention Center.

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at approximately 12:57 a.m., Camden County Police Department officers responded to the Northgate 1 apartment building lobby for reports of two people shot at that location.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims, 21-year-old Quashawn Smith of Camden and a 20-year-old male from West Deptford, suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to Cooper University Hospital, where Quashawn Smith succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 1:42 a.m.

Detectives are looking for assistance in identifying a second suspect involved in this homicide.
