Photo Gallery: 15 Special Officers Graduate from GC Police Academy

On March 22, 2017, the Gloucester County Police Academy held a graduation ceremony for its 29th graduating class of Special Class II Officers. Fifteen men and women from area police departments took part.

The Gloucester County Police Academy held its 29th Special Officer II Class graduation ceremony on March 22 in the Physical Education Center of Rowan College at Gloucester County campus.

Fifteen officers from area police departments graduated from the program.

Special Officer II graduates are authorized to exercise full powers and duties similar to those of a permanent, regularly appointed, full-time police officer.

The trainees must complete instruction, including professional development, criminal justice system, police community relations, law, arrest, search and-seizure, evidence, communications, vehicle operations, emergency medical care, weaponry and unarmed defense; patrol concepts; traffic; criminal investigation; physical fitness; and agency training.

The courses are conducted on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Sessions began on August 15, 2016.

In addition to the night classes, the recruits are also required to participate in three physical fitness evaluation tests, five days of firearms training and four vehicle operations sessions.

The 29th graduating Class Officers were:

President/Physical Fitness Leader: Sean Aitken, Glassboro PD.

Vice-President: Matthew Barnett, Washington Twp. PD.

Secretary/Treasurer: Rebecca A. Wood, Washington Twp. PD.

Class Leader: Jason Skidmore, Glassboro PD.

Guidon: Luke Brandon Ivey, Deptford Twp PD.

Achievement Awards were awarded to:

Physical Training Award: Sean Aitken, Glassboro PD.

Firearms Award: Luke Brandon Ivey, Deptford Twp. PD.

Academic Award: Aaron Lane, Vineland PD.

Robert D. Melson Merit Award: Matthew Barnett, Washington Twp PD.

Special Dedication Award: Jason Skidmore, Glassboro PD.

Vehicle Operations Award: Rebecca Wood, Washington Twp. PD.

Director’s Award: ┬áSean Aitken, Glassboro PD.
