Cherry Hill Man Pleads Guilty to Westville Armed Robbery

James Q. Harris, 27, of Cherry Hill, entered a guilty plea on Novemver 30, 2017 relating to an armed robbery of two men on Broadway in Westville that had taken place on October 11, 2016.

James Q. Harris, 27, of Cherry Hill, pleaded guilty on November 30, 2017 to the November 11, 2016 armed robbery of two men on Broadway in Westville, according to a media release issued by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s office.

As a result of the plea to the second-degree offense, Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Joseph Brook will recommend that Harris be sentenced to eight years in New Jersey state prison. Under the New Jersey No Early Release Act, Harris must serve 85 percent of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Superior Court Judge M. Christine-Allen Jackson scheduled sentencing for January 26, 2018.

Harris and co-defendant Steven A. Cooley, 28, of Woodlynne, were charged with accosting the two victims on the street, going through the pockets of one man, but obtaining nothing before the defendants fled.

One victim reported that one of the men had a handgun.

Through investigation, Cooley was identified as a suspect and arrested on February 1, 2017, but is presently a fugitive.

Harris was taken into custody February 17, 2017 and has been in jail since his arrest.
