New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials have announced that the right lane on I-295 northbound that was scheduled to be closed during the day Wednesday, May 5 has been postponed because of weather.
The lane will be closed during the day on Thursday and Friday to continue work on the retaining wall investigation in Bellmawr, Camden County.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 6 until 4 p.m., and again on Friday, May 7, the right lane on I-295 northbound will be closed beginning just past the Creek Road overpass before Exit 26 where the highway splits for I-76 toward Philadelphia/I-295 toward Trenton and will continue through the tunnel.
Future lane closures may be necessary as the investigation continues.
Motorists should expect congestion on I-295 northbound and Route 42 northbound.
The wall was built as part of the new roadway on the Direct Connection project that was not yet open to traffic.
The removal of the panels from the damaged portion of the wall is complete.
Excavation work is continuing to examine the soil below the wall, which is being done in stages and is expected to take a few weeks.
