Enjoy some cool JFS Village by the Shore virtual programs during the hot summer season.

Here’s your chance to participate in fun, unique and entertaining activities while continuing to socialize safely at home.

In August, the Village will host nine interactive, thought-provoking and creative programs for you.

DIY Container Garden

Tuesday, August 3 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Bernadette Getzler, a natural gardening and healthy lifestyle guru, for an innovative special session on creating lovely paper made from newspaper and flowers from your summer container garden. Have fun and learn a new skill as you embrace your creative side. This program is free for Holocaust Survivors and Village Members. For non-members, the cost is $5. RSVP by July 29.

Nurse’s Roundtable: Medical & Recreational Marijuana & COVID Update

Wednesday, August 4 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Nurse Educator Lori Pasahow and Village Membership Director Tina Serota for an in-depth discussion on the pros and cons, benefits and safety of medical and recreational marijuana use. What are the lasting lifestyle changes and how to use what might be appropriate for you. In the second half of the presentation, we’ll answer COVID questions and give the latest updates. The Positivity Project

Thursday, August 5 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Explore positivity during challenging times with JFS Wellness Coordinator Mary Jean Arreola and Village Membership Director Tina Serota. Monthly topics include self-care, mindfulness, gratitude, meditation, resiliency and more. Time to feed your mind and spirit. RSVP by August 2.

The Village Movie Society

Tuesday, August 10 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join theater teacher and coach Louise Marshall Hacker and Village Membership Director Tina Serota for a lively discussion about the motion picture, Five Flights Up, starring Diane Keaton and Morgan Freeman. The story centers around a couple who’ve spent most of their long marriage in the same New York City apartment. They are overwhelmed with personal and financial issues as they plan to move. This film is available on Netflix. RSVP by August 6.

Comfort Cuisine: Healthy & Delicious

Tuesday, August 17 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Bernadette Getzler, healthy eating and gardening guru, as she takes a food journey using farm fresh ingredients. You’ll learn how to cook your favorite recipes in new and inventive ways by taking existing ingredients and substituting for healthier options. Learn to eat comfort foods in a whole new way. RSVP by August 12.

Wednesday, August 18 from 1pm to 2pm

Join friends and neighbors for an afternoon of BINGO games and prizes with Louise Marshall Hacker. BINGO cards will be delivered to those who register in advance. This event is free for Holocaust Survivors and Village Members. For non-members, the cost is $5. RSVP by August 6.

Coffee Klatch

Thursday, August 19 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Our world in 60 minutes! Insightful, animated and fast-paced conversation with friends spanning “both sides of the aisle and the middle.” Share your thoughts on politics, technology, world events, the arts and more. This program is moderated by JFS Village by the Shore Membership Director Tina Serota. RSVP by August 16.

Memoir Workshop

Friday, August 20 from 10:30am to 12pm

Now is the time to tell your story like you’ve never told it before. Experience the thrill of capturing your life’s adventures, history, ancestry and more. Also, learn more about publishing your work from Drexel University Professor of Creative Writing and published author, Harriet Levin Millan. You must have a laptop or pen and paper. RSVP by August 17.

Card Party in Memory of Bonnie Gurwicz

Thursday, August 26 at 10:30am

Enjoy a fun afternoon of games, food and prizes while remembering philanthropist and event hostess, Bonnie Gurwicz. This fundraising event, held at Harbor Pines Golf Club, 500 St. Andrews Drive in Egg Harbor Township, benefits Village by the Shore. Event is $75 per player and Village Members receive a 20% discount. Space is limited. RSVP by August 12.

Village by the Shore is a membership program for adults over the age of 50.
