Runnemede Looks to Rename Beaver Branch Park in Honor of Former Mayor David Venella

Runnemede Mayor and Council wish to honor the memory of David Venella by renaming Beaver Branch Park to Venella Park.

At the September 7, 2021 monthly meeting of Runnemede Mayor and Council, Ordinance #21-15 was introduced and passed on first reading to rename Beaver Branch Park to “David L. Venella Memorial Park.”

Venella passed away on  February 24, 2021 at the age of 91.

Runnemede Mayor and Council wish to honor the memory of Venella by renaming Beaver Branch Park to the “David L Venella Memorial Park.” The park will be commonly referred to as “Venella Park.”

According to his obituary, Venella “was an active and vital part of local government.”

He served on the Runnemede Borough Council from 1961 to 1970 and was Mayor of Runnemede for 20 years, from 1970 to 1990.

He also served as a member of the Runnemede Planning Board, the Library Board of Trustees, was a President of the Camden County Parks Commission, President of Camden County Mayor’s Association, Aide to past Assemblyman Joseph Roberts.

Venella was also a member of the Camden County Democratic Committee, VFW Post #3324 in Runnemede, the John F. Kennedy Democratic Club in Runnemede, and the Senior’s Club of Runnemede

The Ordinance to rename the park will be taken up for final consideration, public hearing, and passage at the October 5, 2021 meeting of Borough Council.
