Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland & Salem Counties (BBBS) helped bring a smile to children thanks to a new program and the help of a friend in the business community.

The organization was proud to partner with Giordanos Recycling, located at 110 North Mill Rd. in Vineland, to provide 13 free bikes, which had been refurbished by one of their employees, to children in the program.

“We want to thank everyone at Girodanos Recycling, especially Christopher Cantlin for donating his time and skill to give these bikes a second chance and to bring joy to youth in our program,” said Donna Bennett, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland & Salem Counties. “But this donation is about so much more than a bike ride.  It provides our youth a sense of adventure, and a chance to build self-confidence.  There is no doubt it has a tremendous impact on the youth we serve.”

“We believe in the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters and have supported their efforts over the years,” said Brad Giordano of Giordano’s Waste & Recycle Management. “Unfortunately, an untold number of bicycles end up in landfills each year, many of which can be repaired and made available to riders in need. As someone who grew up on a bike, I feel for those whose families cannot afford to give them one. I experienced what a bike did for me, and I know what it can do for other children as well.”

“To that end, we recently found ourselves with a number of old bikes which had been collected at our Vineland processing facility,” Brad Giordano continued.  “So, we decided to recycle what could not be fixed, and refurbish what could be reused to help these families.  Chris was eager to donate his time to the effort, which we all greatly appreciate.  It is definitely something we plan to continue in the future.”
