33 Motorists Charged With Alcohol/Drug Influenced Driving Offenses From Drive Sober Get Pulled Over Campaign

As a result of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign that took place during the last three weeks of December, Gloucester County police officers on special patrols targeted impaired drivers. Thirty-three motorists were charged with alcohol or drug-influenced driving offenses. In all, the total number of motor vehicle violations issued amounted to 268, according to a statement released today by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office (GPCO).

The GCPO distributed $45,000 to police departments in 13 towns for extra patrols during a time when impaired driving typically increases by nearly 10 percent.

Offenses

As a result of the special patrols, those charged with offenses included:

  • 104 charged with speeding.
  • 79 summonses issued for failing to use seat-belts.
  • 28 charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • 21 charged with reckless driving.
  • 17 charged with careless driving
  • 14 charged with texting while driving.
  • 5 arrested for drug-influenced driving.

The grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety was part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” statewide campaign that uses high-visibility enforcement and public education to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence.

“This enforcement campaign by our police departments made our roadways safer during a dangerous time of the year. We appreciate and thank them for their fine work,” Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton said.

Participating Police Departments were Clayton, Glassboro, Pitman, Westville and Woodbury and also from the Townships of Deptford, East Greenwich, Greenwich, Harrison, Logan, Mantua, Monroe, and Washington.
