78-Year Old Gibbsboro Man Charged With First & Second Degree Aggravated Assault

David Zechmeister, 78, of Gibbsboro, has been charged with first and second degree aggravated sexual assault for sexually assaulting a victim when the victim was between the ages of 10-12 years old.

Camden County Prosecutor, Mary Eva Colallilo, has announced that David Zechmeister, 78, of Gibbsboro, Camden County, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault for sexually assaulting a victim when the victim was between the ages of 10-12 years old.

The victim, whose name will not be released, prompted an investigation when he disclosed it to a pastor at Zechmeister’s church.


The victim reported to police that Zechmeister is alleged to have sexually assaulted him on multiple occasions between May of 1987 and May of 1990 in the basement and the cabin in the rear of Zechmeister’s property in Gibbsboro.

While these charges were pending, another victim came forward and reported to police that he also experienced sexual contact by Zechmeister when he was 12 years old on a date between August of 1990 to the fall of 1990.

The victim told police this sexual contact is alleged to have occurred in the cabin at the rear of Zechmeister’s property.

Zechmeister was charged on October 3, 2018, with first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault as a result of the initial investigation, according to the Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo.

On October 12, 2018, he was additionally charged with second degree Sexual Assault.

David Zechmeister was arrested on October 3, 2018, at his residence without incident. Zechmeister is currently detained at the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing.
