The heat of summer is here and with it comes the likelihood of increased energy use associated with cooling devices. Atlantic City Electric reminds customers of important energy assistance still available to help customers meet their summer energy needs. Atlantic City Electric customers can take advantage of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program’s (LIHEAP) extension until August 31 by submitting applications now to secure grants while money is still available. Up to $1,000 in grant support per customer is available, depending on a household’s income, size and type of fuel, with no pay back required.

Customers can apply for LIHEAP through the Department of Community Affairs website, by contacting their local LIHEAP Agency, or by calling 1-800-510-3102.

“We understand our customers may face financial challenges in meeting their energy needs. We offer many programs to help customers manage their energy service, while helping them secure the essential energy assistance they need to help pay their energy bills,” said Gary Stockbridge, Atlantic City Electric region president. “We strongly encourage residents to submit their applications now while funds are still available.”

To be eligible for a grant, a customer’s annual household income cannot exceed 200 percent of the federal poverty income guidelines. Each state has determined eligibility guidelines based on household size and income. Homeowners, renters, roomers and subsidized housing tenants may be eligible for the program. Customers do not have to be behind on their bills to receive a grant.

New Jersey’s maximum monthly household eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • $2,010 – One-person household
  • $2,707 – Two-person household
  • $3,404 – Three-person household
  • $4,100 – Four-person household
