Authorities Arrest Gloucester City Man on Multiple Robbery Charges

Joseph Bush, 38, was charged with robbery after he was identified as the individual responsible for two separate robberies during investigations.

Joseph Bush, 38, was charged with robbery after he was identified as the individual responsible for two separate robberies during investigations by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit as well as the Lawnside Police Department and Somerdale Police Department.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit was investigating a BB&T Bank robbery that occurred on January 19, 2018 when members of the Somerdale Police Department reached out and informed detectives that Joseph Bush may have also been involved in a robbery that occurred the day before.

Somerdale Police told Detectives that a man matching Joseph Bush’s description entered the Somerdale News and Tobacco Outlet on 112 South White Horse Pike at approximately 7:48 p.m. on January 18 and approached the cashier behind the counter.

He then brandished a knife at the clerk and took an undisclosed amount of money from the register before he fled. No one was hurt during the incident.

The following afternoon, Bush allegedly walked into the BB&T Bank on 305 South White Horse Pike and handed a demand note to a teller, then left with an undisclosed amount of money.

Bush fled the scene in his blue pickup truck and ended up in Camden a short time later where he led Camden County Sheriff Officers on a chase through the city.

Bush drove erratically through the streets to elude the police before making his way over the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. The car chase continued in Philadelphia before ending in the area of 12th and Johnston Street.

After a brief foot pursuit, Bush was apprehended by the Philadelphia Police on 12th and Shunk Street and brought to Philadelphia Police Department South Detective Division.

Bush was charged with first degree Robbery, second degree Robbery, second degree Eluding, third degree Aggravated Assault, third degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful purpose and fourth degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon on January 19, 2018, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo.

Bush is currently being held in Philadelphia correctional facility and is awaiting extradition to Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing.

Under recent Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order he be detained or released with conditions.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Detectives were assisted on this case by members of the Camden County Sheriff’s Department, Lawnside Police Department, Somerdale Police Department, Philadelphia Police Department and Magnolia Police Department.

All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
