Bellmawr BOE to Vote on Supt. Merit Goals

The Bellmawr Board of Education (BOE) is set to vote on the 2016-17 merit goals for School Superintendent, Annette Castiglione, according to the October 19 meeting agenda that has been posted on the district’s website. The superintendent stands to earn a merit increase totaling $18,110.50 if all of the goals are met for the 2016-17 school year.

If the Board votes to approve them, the four merit goals will then be submitted to the Executive County Superintendent for approval.

Those merit goals with the potential amount of merit increase are detailed below:

16-17 Merit Read 180 ($4,828.50)

16-17 Merit Goal Service with Feedback 9-21-16 ($3,625.00)

16-17 Merit Green School ($4,828.50)

16-17 Merit Goal IRS with feedback 9-21-16 ($4,828.50)

The merit increase was part of the superintendent’s contract when it was approved in August, 2014. The superintendent’s contract expires on June 30, 2018.

For the 2014-15 school year, Castiglione earned a $21,621 merit increase in accordance with the terms of her contract.

Merit Goals 2014-15

For the 2015-16 school year, the superintendent opted out of an increase for merit goals. During the August, 2015 BOE meeting, Castiglione offered the following comment: “I will not be submitting merit goals so there will not be a monetary burden for the district. However, going forward, those are goals for the district nonetheless.”

As for the upcoming meeting on Wednesday, the agenda states that the BOE will be going into Executive Session for negotiations.

A report attached to this week’s agenda references an October 11 Negotiations Committee meeting. The report indicates: “The Committee reviewed the proposed salary guides for the Bellmawr Education Association (BEA) support staff members. Discussion occurred regarding the salary increases for the non-union staff and the CARE staff. Further discussion will occur at the October Board meeting during Executive Session.”

Last month, the BOE approved the Administrator’s contract following the Executive Session.

Both the Executive meeting minutes and the Regular meeting minutes are set to be approved on Wednesday. The Regular meeting minutes indicate that the vote on the Administrator’s contract was not unanimous.

Voting yes were: Chris Concannon, Eric Hoban, Danielle Tomeo, Lisa Young, and Jody Mangus. Pat Murray voted no and Mike Williams abstained. The motion still carried by majority vote.

So basically we are paying additional monies to do what is already expected of her to do? And to add insult to the taxpayers one of the goals, Merit Green School, promotes the indoctrination of our children about global warming. This is just a huge waste of taxpayer money.

The BOE is just there to rubber stamp wasteful spending like these bonuses. How about a rebate to the taxpayers for meeting goals that should already be a part of the superintendents duties? $21,000 merit increase, $18,000 slam dunk increase this year. Who gets those kinds of bonuses besides the CEO of Wells Fargo and Mylan(epipen)?
Hopefully the next mayor will represent the citizens interests and stop this waste of tax payers money. This mayor is useless. Every time you pass an empty house in Bellmawr of someone that couldn’t afford the taxes, think of this “merit” bonus.
