Bellmawr Council Approves on First Reading Ordinance That Would Abolish Zoning Board & Authorize Planning Board to Act as Zoning Board

Bellmawr Council approved on first reading an Ordinance that would abolish the Zoning Board and authorize the Planning Board to act as the Zoning Board.

On October 22, 2020, Bellmawr Council approved on first reading an Ordinance that will abolish the Zoning Board of Adjustment and authorize the Planning Board to act as the Zoning Board of Adjustment in all respects.

Also approved on reading was a Bond Ordinance authorizing the acquisition of an ambulance for the Borough, appropriating the issuance of General Obligation Bonds or Bond Anticipation Notes in the aggregate principal amount of up to $175,750.

Before both Ordinances are finally approved, there will be a second reading and a public hearing.

All other business on the agenda was approved.

Regarding Resolution 10:207-20, authorizing termination of a volunteer firefighter to the extent required, Borough Solicitor Howard Long stated: “Council is not permitted to discuss any personnel items in an open public session, nor any disciplinary related matters.” If the Resolution was approved, which it was, Mr. Long added that written explanation would be sent on how to appeal.

The motion was approved by the Council with the exception of Councilman Paul DeAngelis, who voted no.
