Bellmawr Councilman Steve Hagerty Resigns From Council Seat

Hagerty stated “certain personal circumstances” were the reason for his resignation.

Bellmawr Councilman Steve Hagerty has resigned as a member of Bellmawr Council.

At the November 22, 2021 monthly meeting of Mayor and Council, Borough Clerk, Francine Wright, read a letter that was addressed to her from Mr. Hagerty.

The letter read:

I hereby tender my resignation as council member of the Borough of Bellmawr effective upon the official certification of the 2021 General Election results.

Hence, I will be leaving my existing council seat as well as my municipal council seat won during the 2021 General Election.

Since first elected in 2012, I have thoroughly enjoyed my role as councilman and serving the residents of Bellmawr.

However, based upon certain personal circumstances, which require my undivided attention, I am currently unavailable to commit the time and effort that I have put in the past and regretfully submit my resignation.

Mayor Chuck Sauter thanked Councilman Hagerty for his nine years of dedication and commitment working for the residents of Bellmawr and serving as Director of Public Safety, working closely with Police, Fire, and EMS. “Your time and your dedication to Bellmawr were greatly appreciated. You will be missed,” Mayor Sauter said.

As for the vacant seat, Borough Clerk, Frani Wright, stated that she has advised the county committee chair, who will be following the next steps for filling the vacancy.
