Bellmawr School District Announces New Hires

School Superintendent, Annette Castiglione, introduced the district’s new hires for the 2016-17 school year at last week’s Board of Education (BOE) meeting. Ms. Castiglione also announced that Melissa Gleason will be the new vice-principal at Bell Oaks. Ms. Gleason’s former position at the school was sixth grade teacher.

Board Approves Agenda Items

Among the approvals on the BOE’s agenda were:

  • The salaries for the non-union staff for the 2016-17 year. Vice-President, Patrick Murray, said the salaries reflect a 2% increase.
  • The bill list in the total amount of $1,838,570.87.
  • Acceptance of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Fiscal Year 2017 funds totaling $354,183.
  • A Resolution authorizing the transfer of current year anticipated surplus to Capital Reserve account at year end. The BOE has determined that up to $400,000 is available for transfer.
  • A shared services agreement with South Jersey Technology Partnership (SJTP) to replace the walk-in freezer at Bell Oaks at a cost of $65,952.96.

The Board also voted to accept the following donations:

  • $160 from Douglas Ballard in support of the first Bell Oaks “Green Day”
  • 10 cases of water from Brown’s Shoprite in Brooklawn for the Bell Oaks Graduation ceremony
  • Three 4-yard recyclable dumpsters from the Borough of Bellmawr as part of their recyclable program
  • Two Chromebooks from Donors Choose for students to use in their math program in Mrs. Friend’s classroom at EM Burke School
  • Two Ardiuno Uno R3 micro-controller starter kits; (2) raspberry Pi starter kits from Donors Choose for the Academically Talented (AT) program at Bell Oaks School

The BOE does not meet in July. The next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, August 24 at 5:00 p.m. for the Work Session. The regular meeting follows at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are held in the media center at Bell Oaks.
