Bellmawr Water Dept. Announces Hydrant Flushing for Bellmawr Water Customers

The Bellmawr Water Department recently announced the 2023 Spring Hydrant Flushing Schedule for Bellmawr Water Customers.

New Jersey American Water recently announced its annual flushing schedule.

Why Flushing is Important

Flushing the system helps to clean out any build-up of mineral deposits and settlement inside the pipes.

These harmless deposits can occur when there is a reduced water demand.

Hydrants are also flow-tested to insure operations related to firefighting activities.

How Pipelines Are Flushed

Flushing involves simultaneously opening fire hydrants in a specific area to create increased water flows. When our crew is in your area the process takes about 2 hours and flushing occurs between 10:00 pm and 1:00 am in an effort to cause the least amount of disturbance to our customers.

What To Expect

When the crew is in your area, you may notice a drop in water pressure or discolored water. Discolored water may occur because the sediment in water mains gets stirred up when the hydrants are utilized and when the flow of water in the mains is changed (Fire emergencies/Contractor theft). This is normal and temporary. If this happens, it is not harmful. Please let your cold water run until it is clear.

Additional Customer Tips:

If the crew is in your area, avoid running your tap water and using your washing machine.

If discolored water occurs, run the cold water for a few minutes until it is clear.

Check for discolored water before running the washing machine or dishwasher. Wait until the water runs clear at the tap before doing laundry or running the dishwasher.

Note: If laundry becomes stained, do not put it in the dryer. Rewash clothes immediately using detergent and rust remover. Most rust removers can also be used on stained fixtures.
