Burlington County Elections Offices Will Remain Open Late on May 16 For Registration Deadline Date

Burlington County election offices will stay open late next week for last-minute voter registrations and to assist with vote-by-mail applications before the upcoming New Jersey Primary Election.

This Tuesday, May 16, is the last day New Jersey residents can register to vote in the June 6 primary election. Registration can be done in person at most municipal buildings and also at the Burlington County Superintendent of Elections Office at 50 Rancocas Road, which is open from 8 AM to 4 PM on weekdays.

To accommodate last-minute registrations, the Superintendent of Elections Office will have special hours from 8 AM to 9 PM on May 16.

For the first time, the Burlington County Clerk’s Office in 50 Rancocas Road will also remain open until 9 PM on May 16 to offer voters assistance with Vote-by-Mail applications and to answer questions about their voting options.

“Our nation’s democracy works best and is strongest when we all participate in it, so we’re encouraging all eligible U.S. citizens who aren’t yet registered to do so before the deadline and learn about the different ways they can cast their ballot,” said Burlington County Superintendent of Elections Dawn Marie Addiego. “You can now vote by mail, drop box or machine. All three methods are safe and secure, but it all begins with being registered. It’s the first step to making sure your voice is heard.”

“Voting is a fundamental right and the staff of the Superintendent of Elections Office and the County Clerk deserve thanks for all they do to help our residents register and understand their options for voting,” added Burlington County Commissioner Dan O’Connell, the liaison to County Elections. “Offering special office hours on the day of the registration deadline ensures eligible voters can participate and they have all the information they need to cast their ballot securely using their preferred voting method.”

Voter eligibility

An eligible Burlington County voter must be a U.S. citizen who is at least 18 years old and a resident of Burlington County for at least 30 days before the June 6 primary election date.

Voters can also register online at https://nj.gov/state/elections/voter-registration.shtml or obtain a paper voter registration form that can be mailed to the Superintendent of Elections Office.

All completed registration forms must arrive at the office before closing on May 16 for the voter to be eligible to participate in the upcoming election.

Vote-by-mail

Voters interested in casting their ballot early with a Vote-by-Mail ballot may still request one from the Clerk’s Office provided they are already registered and declared as either a Democrat or Republican. Vote-by-mail applications are available online at http://www.co.burlington.nj.us/192/County-Clerk .

Unaffiliated voters can also participate in the primary, but they must cast their ballot in person during either the three-day early voting period (June 2-4) or on the June 6 primary election date. Those voters will be required to change their party affiliation to either Democrat or Republican before casting their ballot.

Completed Vote-by-Mail ballots can be submitted through the U.S. Post Office or placed in one of 28 secure drop boxes located throughout the county. Burlington County drop box locations can be found online: https://nj.gov/state/elections/vote-secure-drop-boxes.shtml

Voters may also hand-deliver completed Vote-by-Mail ballots to the Burlington County Board of Elections Office at 50 Rancocas Road. There is also a drop box located immediately outside the building.
