Burlington County Offering $50 Farmers Market Vouchers to Qualifying Seniors

This year qualifying seniors will receive $50 redeemable at participating farmers markets and market vendors, a $20 increase over the $30 vouchers distributed last year.

The Burlington County Farmers Market is one of more than a dozen county farm markets and farm vendors accepting vouchers from the Burlington County Farmers Market Nutrition Voucher Program this year. Seniors can apply for the $50 vouchers by contacting the Burlington County Office on Aging at 609-265-5069.

The Burlington County Commissioners are offering senior citizens larger vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables sold at local farmers markets.

Applications for the Burlington County Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Voucher Program are now available to eligible seniors. This year qualifying seniors will receive $50 redeemable at participating farmers markets and market vendors, a $20 increase over the $30 vouchers distributed last year.

“Seniors are among the most vulnerable to rising food prices, so boosting vouchers up to $50 will help ensure those most in need can continue to access nutritious, locally grown produce from our Burlington County farms,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson. “This also helps local farms to keep agriculture in our county strong and viable. It’s a win-win for seniors and our farmers, and we’re pleased to see the program continue to grow.”

How to Apply For Vouchers

Applications for vouchers are available by calling the Office on Aging at 609-265-5069.

Burlington County seniors can also apply for the vouchers in-person with Office on Aging staff at the Burlington County Senior Expo, which is being held June 14 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Masonic Village Fellowship Center, 1114 Oxmead Road in Burlington Township.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, seniors must be 60 years or older, residents of Burlington County and have annual income less than $26,973 ($2,248 a month) for a single or less than $36,874 ($3,041 a month) for a married couple.

Eligible seniors will receive $50 to spend with participating vendors at area farmers markets. Unlike in past years when paper vouchers were distributed, this year’s vouchers will be electronic using QR codes that will be easily accessible from smartphones or other electronic devices.

The QR codes can also be printed and then brought to participating farm markets and vendors to scan and redeem.

More than a dozen county farm market vendors will accept the vouchers this year. Among the markets on the list is the Burlington County Farmers Market held each Saturday from 8:30 AM to 1 PM at the Burlington County Agricultural Center, 500 Centerton Road in Moorestown.

“Burlington County is the state leader in acres of preserved farmland, showing our dedication to agriculture. The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Voucher Program is another big County success story and allows us to partner with our local farm community to assist seniors. Last year, 840 Burlington County seniors received vouchers to help purchase locally grown produce,” said Commissioner Allison Eckel, the liaison to the Department of Resource Conservation and Parks. “The program is good for seniors’ finances and their health, and it also aids local farmers. We’re encouraging all qualifying seniors to apply right away.”
