Deptford Township Police Announce Apprehensions & Arrests During Two Recent Crimes “In Progress” in One Week Span

To make an apprehension during a burglary, especially as the crime is in progress, is extremely difficult.

On July 26, 2022, the Deptford Township Police Department announced that two “in progress” arrests were made by officers during recent commercial burglary incidents.

“To make an apprehension during a Burglary, especially as the crime is in progress, is extremely difficult,” the Deptford Township Police Department wrote on a Facebook post dated . “Our officers made two in a one-week span.”


Sound of Glass Shattering

On July 15, 2022, at approximately 2:37 am, Deptford Township Police Patrol Officer Kyle Toal was patrolling the area of Cooper Street and Good Intent Road when he heard the sound of glass shattering.

Officer Toal quickly pulled into the Heritage’s convenience store, located at 1327 Cooper Street, and observed damage to one of the front windows.

Seconds later, a male was observed exiting the store through a damaged window.

The suspect was apprehended by Officer Toal without incident.

It was determined that the suspect was in possession of approximately $400 worth of tobacco products.

The suspect was identified as a 50-year-old male from Glassboro. The male was formally charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and Theft, and subsequently lodged in the Salem County Jail.

“Founded” Burglary

On July 23, 2022, at approximately. 2:17 am, Deptford Township Police Officers were dispatched to the Best Buy store for a report of a burglar alarm.

Patrol Officer Anthony Gatto arrived at the store moments later and determined that it was a “founded” Burglary.

Several more Deptford Officers responded and learned that two suspects were still on location.

With assistance from the New Jersey State Police, Deptford Township Fire Department, Gloucester Township Police Department, Franklin Township Police Department, and Westville Police Department, two males were apprehended at the scene.

Both males, ages 25 and 29, reside in Philadelphia and both were charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, and Possession of Burglar’s Tools.

Those suspects were also lodged in the Salem County Jail.

Praising all of the Officers’ efforts, the Deptford Township Police wrote on their Facebook post: “We are proud of these Officers and we compliment them on their vigilance and professionalism! We also thank our colleagues for their continued assistance and support.”
