Egg Harbor Twp. Man Pleads Guilty to Distributing & Possessing Child Sexual Assault Material

The investigation revealed that William Roman was sharing Child Sexual Assault Material (CSAM) on Snapchat and possessed CSAM with the intent to distribute it to others in hopes of building his collection.

On April 17, 2023, William Roman, 36, of Egg Harbor Township, pleaded guilty to second-degree Endangering the Welfare of Children (Distribution of Child Sexual Assault Material, pejoratively known as “child pornography”) and second-degree Endangering the Welfare of Children (Possession of Child Sexual Assault Material with Intent to Distribute) in exchange for a 12-year term in New Jersey State Prison.

Roman was eligible for enhanced sentencing due to a 2017 conviction for Endangering the Welfare of Children (Possession of Child Sexual Assault Material) by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.


The investigation began when the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit received information regarding Roman’s online activities from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NECMEC).

The investigation revealed that Roman was sharing Child Sexual Assault Material (CSAM) on Snapchat, a popular instant message and file-sharing application, and possessed CSAM with the intent to distribute it to others in hopes of building his collection of CSAM.

The investigation was conducted by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit, assisted by Homeland Security Investigations-Atlantic City, and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.

Sentencing Date

Sentencing is scheduled for August 7, 2023, in front of Honorable Judge Donna Taylor, J.S.C.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit and Homeland Security Investigations-Atlantic City are members of the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office also is a member of the New Jersey State Police Cyber Crimes Task Force.
