CHERRY HILL, NJ — November 9, 2021 — Major depression among teenage girls is on the rise and many teens suffer from loneliness.

According to a 2020 Girl Scouts Research Institute report on mental health, 84% of Girl Scouts feel stressed about their futures and nearly 50% of GEN Z youth (ages 6 to 24) feel they will be judged negatively for receiving mental health treatment.

On Wednesday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m., the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey (GSCSNJ) will host a webinar, “Girls Minds Matter: The Importance of Mental Health and Wellbeing” via Zoom.

The event will provide insights on mental health issues experienced by girls today, ways to destigmatize mental health, support resources for girls and parents, and how organizations like Girl Scouts can help girls facing difficult times.

The webinar will feature a cross-section of mental health experts including Jean Christie, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Girl Scout Volunteer; Gabrielle Gunin, therapist and graduate student researcher at the Rutgers Youth Anxiety and Depression Clinic (YAD-C); Dr. Taunya M. Tinsley, PhD, DMin, NCC, LPC, Licensed Professional Counselor, Transitions Counseling Services, LLC; and Dr. Jennifer Weber, Director of Behavioral Health, PM Pediatrics. Ginny Hill, GSCSNJ CEO, will serve as moderator.
