More Than $41,000 Raised by Stamp Out Hunger 5K; Proceeds to Aid Food Insecure In South Jersey

MEDFORD, NJ. –   Over 400 walkers and runners helped to Stamp Out Hunger in Medford, NJ this Labor Day by participating in the 7th annual Stamp Out Hunger 5k & 1 Mile. 

The event is hosted by ShopRite of Medford with McCarthy Weidler recognized as the Event Sponsor.

A record-breaking $41,644.83 was raised this year to combat food insecurity.

The beneficiaries of the funds were two organizations dedicated to fighting hunger. Renee Zallie, Race Director recently presented proceed checks to both ShopRite Partners In Caring and the Food Bank of South Jersey.

ShopRite Partners In Caring is a community-based, hunger-fighting initiative that supports more than 2,200 charities. 

Race proceeds of $15,580.17 were donated to SRPIC on behalf of ShopRite of Medford. 

$26,064.66 was donated to the Food Bank of South Jersey which included half of the race proceeds and 100% of the race registration fees. 

According to Fred Wasiak, CEO of the Food Bank of SJ, “this money will provide more than 80,000 meals to those in need in South Jersey.”

In addition to the event sponsor, other sponsor levels included Diamond Sponsors: Lynmar Builders, Cold Technology, and Liscios Bakery.  Premier Sponsors were Cento and the Medford Vincentown Rotary Club. 

“The success of the event is due, in large part, to the generosity of our sponsors which include local companies like Radwell, Miles Technology, Holman Enterprises, SCS Engineers, Merritt’s Gulf, Harrietts Energy Solutions, the Center for Counseling & Education, and Medford Bagel.  We are so grateful to them for their continued support,” says Renee Zallie.

Davis PT sponsored the race and also provided pre-race stretching to participants.

The Running Co. contributed to the prizes for overall and age group winners. 

Local balloon master, Gary Pringle from Premier Parties kept the atmosphere lively with music and balloon creations for kids, big and small.  

This annual event will continue in 2022 in Medford, NJ. “As long as there is food insecurity in our area, we will be there to help,” says Race Co-Director Beth Ann Peterson.
