Mt. Ephraim Looks to Acquire Emmaus Catholic Community Property (Formerly Sacred Heart)

Public Hearing will be held via Zoom on Dec. 3, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

There will be a virtual public hearing on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. to consider for adoption Ordinance 2020-18 – an Ordinance Authorizing the acquisition and purchase of real property known as 27 West Kings Highway (and designated as Block 34, lots 5, 6, 7, 9.02, 10, 11, and 12 on the tax map). This is for the Emmaus Catholic Community property — formerly Sacred Heart.

The purpose of the Ordinance is to acquire real property pursuant to appropriate statute, an Agreement of Sale and the final availability of funds.


The public hearing will be held at the Mt. Ephraim Municipal Building or can be attended virtually via Zoom.

SJO has reached out to the Borough Clerk to request a copy of the proposed Ordinance for the sale price.

SJO previously reported that the property was originally for sale for $1,650,00, but the price had been substantially reduced to $700,000.

A search of property records indicates that a Deed of Conveyance and a Transfer of Ownership was made on June 30, 2014 for Church of St. Rose Haddon Heights to acquire the property for $1.00.

A further search of property records showed that a Confirmatory Deed and Certificate of Consolidation between the late Sacred Heart Church and the late Church of the Holy Maternity in Audubon was made on June 10, 2010.

On February 16, 2012, the Emmaus Catholic Community sold the Holy Maternity property, located at 431 West Nicholson Road in Audubon, to Primera Iglesia Pentecoastal Hispania de Blackwood for $1,002,955.
