In Camden City, it wouldn’t be Christmas Eve without New Covenant Ministries. The organization, known for its pop up Christmas Eve Day events, also marked two milestones recently. Its president, Tommy Williams, has been in ministry for 50 years and this year, New Covenant Ministries marked its third decade of bringing joy and hope to Camden residents in Jesus’ name.

As he does every Christmas Eve, Williams greets everyone with a wide smile and a bear hug. He oversees the annual event wearing his signature Grinch boxers atop khakis. With a hearty laugh, Williams explained why the Grinch boxers hold special meaning: “I used to be a Grinch before I let Jesus into my heart. Now I’m a Grinch no more.”
The site of the pop up Christmas Eve Day event changes each year and its location is not publicly disclosed. This year, Pyne Point Park in North Camden was selected as the site.
Volunteers Help Dispense Bikes, Toys, Prayer & Communion
Volunteers escort guests to and through one of two semi tractor trailers filled so children can select a new toy and a stuffed animal. They are then guided to the bike yard to pick out a bike. Gloves, hats, and socks are also distributed. Two food court areas are set up to serve hot dogs, popcorn, chocolate-dipped pretzels, hot chocolate, coffee, apple juice boxes, and bottled water.

Santa Claus visits with the children and hands out stockings.
Volunteers are also available for prayer requests and to dispense Communion.
In addition to the annual Christmas Eve Day event, New Covenant Ministries is actively involved in many other outreach efforts throughout the year, including street and prison ministries, nursing home visits, and bike repairs.
