New Jersey American Water Reminds Customers of Payment Assistance Programs as New Jersey Winter Termination Program Ends

New Jersey American Water is promoting its bill-paying assistance programs through social and digital media, bill inserts, emails, and other customer notifications.

New Jersey American Water wants to remind customers who need help with their water or wastewater bill to apply for payment assistance programs including its H2O Help to Others Program™ and the Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) as the Winter Termination Program recently closed.

“While water service is a tremendous value at just a penny per gallon, we understand that many customers may be facing financial hardships, especially when it comes to paying their monthly bills,” said Mark McDonough, president of New Jersey American Water. “We want to be sure customers are aware of the various assistance programs available through our company and the state and use them to get help if they need it.”

In an effort to get this information out to customers, New Jersey American Water is promoting its bill-paying assistance programs through social and digital media, bill inserts, emails, and other customer notifications.

Customers are encouraged to watch this informational video highlighting the program and its benefits.

For nearly two decades, New Jersey American Water has been assisting qualified customers through its unique assistance program.

H2O Help to Others Program™ is administered by New Jersey SHARES (NJ SHARES), a nationally recognized nonprofit organization providing statewide help, guidance, and referral for essential services to New Jersey residents in need of assistance.

Through the company’s H2O Help to Others Program, customers meeting lower income requirements can qualify for grants of up to $500 to help pay their indoor water bill.

Qualified customers also have the opportunity to receive up to 100 percent discount on their monthly fixed service charges for water and/or wastewater.

Customers interested in learning more about the program and its qualifications are encouraged to contact the program administrator, NJ SHARES, directly at 877-NJAWH2O (652-9426), or online at www.njshares.org.

Customers who wish to lend a helping hand by contributing to the program can do so by adding a donation to their monthly New Jersey American Water bill. New Jersey American Water assumes all administrative costs for this program, so 100 percent of donations plus matching funds go directly to qualifying customers.

Additionally, New Jersey American Water offers payment arrangements and budget billing for customers who need assistance paying their bills but may not qualify for the H2O Program. Customers who would like to explore these options are encouraged to visit the company’s customer assistance web page or call the Customer Service Center at 800-272-1325.

New Jersey residents in need should also take advantage of assistance through New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ LIHWAP, a federally funded program that provides emergency assistance to families experiencing hardship with their water bills. LIHWAP assists those who are behind on their drinking water and wastewater bills to help keep their water and wastewater service active.

People can apply online through the DCAid application portal or by calling 1-800-510-3102.
