A forensic excavation was initiated as part of the overall investigation and the data that has been retrieved, including soil samples and testing of the grout piles, is being reviewed.

In a letter dated May 19, 2021, New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner, Diane Gutierrez-Sacchetti, issued a letter to local legislators “pledging full transparency and a robust public outreach program” while providing an update of the investigation of the March 25, 2021 retaining wall that shifted and partially collapsed.

The letter reads: “Regarding the investigation and corrective action plan associated with the recent retaining wall failure, a forensic investigation is currently underway to determine the source of the failure and next steps. A forensic excavation was initiated as part of the overall investigation, and the data that has been retrieved, including soil samples and testing of the grout piles, is currently being reviewed.”

“The Department remains committed to full transparency and a robust public outreach program,” the letter states.

NJDOT’s “goal is to keep the residents and commuters in the area as informed as possible by sharing real time updates through a variety of mediums that ensure everyone has access to the most pertinent information.”

The letter also states that NJDOT will also be launching a “Text for Info” service for constituents and commuters to “Opt In” to receive project-related updates.
