Norcross Announces More Than $1.8M in Funding for Family Services in South Jersey

CAMDEN, NJ – U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) announced on October 14, 2020 that the Center for Family Services (CFS), located in Camden, will receive a total of $1,861,524 in grant funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The four grants will help CFS expand their capacity to help improve the health and safety of South Jersey families.

“From providing emergency housing to strengthening father-child relationships, these grants will help the Center for Family Services provide local families with the resources they need to remain healthy and safe, especially during the current public health crisis,” said Congressman Norcross. “This federal funding will ensure services remain available and are expanded to the most at-risk individuals in our community. I look forward to seeing how these awards positively impact our families and children in South Jersey, by giving them the tools to compete and succeed.”

Specifically, the Center for Family Services received the following grants:

• $301,538 to help provide therapeutic services to victims of domestic violence.

“This new funding from the federal government will provide important therapeutic services for children who witnessed or experienced violence in their households,” said Richard Stagliano, President & CEO at Center For Family Services. “These expanded services will help to mitigate the negative effects of the trauma and support path to healing for children here in our New Jersey community.”

• $200,000 to expand emergency shelter and support services to at risk children.

“A safe place to live is a basic need,” said Stagliano. “Thanks to this award from the federal government, children here in New Jersey will have a safe place to turn for walk-in emergency shelter and support services that promote safety, well-being and self-sufficiency. This important funding will help to change lives.”

• $360,000 to help provide services for survivors of human trafficking.

“Thanks to this federal award from HHS, CFS will expand and strengthen services for victims and survivors or human trafficking and their families,” said Stagliano. “This important funding will increase outreach to, identification of, rescue of and services for victims and survivors.”

• $999,986 to strengthen father-child development.

“This new federal funding supports the important role fathers play in the positive development of children,” said Stagliano. “Trauma-informed services designed to strengthen positive father-child engagement, increase connections to employment, and build economic stability will be offered in collaboration with community-based partners and service sites across the City of Camden.”
