Rep. Donald Norcross Announces $153.3M to Help Individuals & Families With Rising Home Heating Costs This Winter

This funding will help low-income individuals and families pay for home heating costs this winter and cover unpaid utility bills.

On November 2, 2022, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) announced that New Jersey was awarded $153.3 million in funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Administered through the Administration for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this funding will help low-income individuals and families pay for home heating costs this winter and cover unpaid utility bills.

These funds will also help families make cost-effective home energy repairs to lower their heating and cooling bills.

The total funding announced today includes an additional $1 billion appropriated by Congress to address rising energy costs, as well as $100 million appropriated for 2023 from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which Congressman Norcross helped pass.

“Rising fuel costs have pinched the wallets of many South Jerseyans, and LIHEAP has served millions of households with heating, cooling, and weatherization services to keep costs down,” said Congressman Norcross. “As Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine continues to spike global energy markets, this funding will help many South Jersey families stay safe and warm this winter.”

The additional $1 billion in funding secured by Congress will provide even more home energy assistance to people in New Jersey.

As winter approaches, funding for LIHEAP is extremely important. This program is crucial for protecting the health and well-being of households in South Jersey.
