Berry was taken into custody yesterday at a residence in West Deptford by the U.S Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and lodged in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly.

A detention hearing will be held soon in Superior Court. The case will be prepared for presentation to a grand jury for possible indictment.

The investigation began after officers from the Maple Shade Police Department were called to Fox Meadow Apartments on the evening of January 16, 2022, for a report of shots fired.

The victim, Ezekiel Sanders Jr., 32, was found on Gardenia Drive with gunshot wounds and taken by ambulance to Jefferson Hospital in Cherry Hill, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

An autopsy performed by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood determined Sanders had been struck in the arm and the chest.

The investigation revealed that a vehicle sped away from the scene after the victim had been shot.

Berry’s co-defendant, 23-year-old Teon Macklin-Goodwine of Clementon, was charged in June 2022 with Murder (First Degree), Robbery (First Degree), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Second Degree), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Second Degree) and Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons (Second Degree). He was detained and placed in the Burlington County Jail.

The investigation was conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Maple Shade Police Department, with assistance from the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department, the Glassboro Police Department, and the Gloucester Township Police Department. The lead investigators are BCPO Det. Kevin Sobotka and MSPD Det. Brian Martino.

Berry and Macklin-Goodwine are being prosecuted by BCPO Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Lynch.

All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.
