Semaj Gilmore, of Camden, Pleads Guilty to Trafficking 3 Minors to Engage in Commercial Sex Acts

From September 2020 to April 2021 Gilmore transported, at various times, three minor victims from Philadelphia to New Jersey.

On May 4, 2023, Semaj A. Gilmore, 33, pleaded guilty before U.S. Chief District Judge Renée Marie Bumb on May 3, 2023, to three counts of a superseding indictment charging him with sex trafficking minors.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:

From September 2020 to April 2021 Gilmore transported, at various times, three minor victims from Philadelphia to New Jersey knowing they would engage in a commercial sex act at Gilmore’s direction. Each of the victims was under the age 18 at the time.

Sentencing Date

Each count of sex trafficking of a minor is punishable by a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life in prison, and a fine of up to $250,000.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 5, 2023.

U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited special agents of FBI’s South Jersey Resident Agency, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Jacqueline Maguire in Philadelphia, with the investigation leading to the guilty plea. He also thanked members of the Mount Laurel Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Bender and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn Waegener of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Camden.
