Sgt. Steven LaPorta Recognized for 25 Years of Dedication & Contributions to Public Safety

Sgt. Steven LaPorta, who served 25 years in law enforcement was recently recognized for his contributions to public safety.

Sgt. Steven LaPorta, who served 25 years in law enforcement — the last 17 of them with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s office, was recognized on December 18 for his contributions to public safety.

Gloucester County Prosecutor Charles A. Fiore said of LaPorta: “He has a long history of dedication to this department as well as other departments in the county.”


LaPorta officially retired on December 1 and was also an officer in the Newfield and Franklin Township police departments.

Prosecutor Fiore presented LaPorta with a plaque stating that he has “been a faithful and valuable asset to this community.”

At the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office (GCPO), Sgt. LaPorta served in the grand jury, crime scene, and vehicular homicide units. He also started the Cyber-Crime Unit in which he arrested numerous adults, some on charges of attempting to arrange sexual encounters with children in on-line chats, and others for internet distribution of child pornography.

“Probably the best memories I have were the 17-plus years I had the opportunity of working here with you guys,” Sgt. Laporta said to his former GCPO coworkers.
