(Thorofare) – The United Way of Gloucester County is pleased to announce that 16 local nonprofits will receive funding from the Live United Mini-Grant program.

These grants will go towards programs that provide services to Gloucester County residents. Funds were generated by the members of the Live United 365 Small Business Circle, an initiative for small businesses to give back to the community.
“The mini-grant program offers funding support beyond the traditional United Way allocations process and responds to community need,” said Michael Gower, Executive Director of the United Way of Gloucester County. “We are grateful to the members of the Live United Small Business Circle for making the Live United Mini-Grant program a success.”

Each nonprofit will use funds from the Live United Mini-Grant program to provide services to Gloucester County residents for financial stability, health, or education causes.
“The money that we received from United Way’s Live United grant will help us to purchase a commercial fridge and freezer that is desperately needed in order to buy in bulk, keep food at the right temperature, and continue to expand our food program,” said Randy Van Osten, Director/ Keeper of The Lighthouse Community Center, a local nonprofit that provides warm meals to those in need. “Thank you to the United Way for believing in us and our mission, and thank you to everyone who donates to the United Way.”
In addition to the 16 Live United mini-grant recipients, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Gloucester County, Family and Community Health Sciences was awarded an Innovation Grant for their Cooking Matters at Home program.
This program provides virtual cooking lessons along with prepared meal kits to teach families how to make nutritious, low-cost meals at home to promote healthy futures.
“While the past year has been extremely challenging, we are so grateful to our donors for their continued support to ensure that these funds are available,” said Gower. “Their efforts help our community and our neighbors in need.”
