Winslow Township School District is proud to announce the awarding of Visionary Principal of the year to Ms. Stella Nwanguma, Winslow Township Middle School Principal, by the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association (NJPSA).
Ms. Nwanguma has served as the Principal of Winslow Township Middle School for the past 11 years after successfully teaching at the elementary, middle, and high school levels for over 17 years.
She began her role as Principal at a time when the Winslow Township Middle School was in need of change. Under Ms. Nwanguma’s lead, she succeeded in making the Middle School into a school of excellence.
As a collaborative and empowering leader, she has worked to instill a sense of pride and purpose in the staff and students.

According to Dr. H. Major Poteat, Superintendent of the Winslow Township School District, “Ms. Nwanguma inherited a school that was deemed as academically in need of improvement. The transformation of our Middle School under her leadership is nothing short of amazing. As a result of her efforts, the Middle School has received local, regional, and national acclaim in the areas of STEM and environmental science.”
Since becoming principal of Winslow Township Middle School, Ms. Nwanguma has implemented many changes to improve educational effectiveness, support the growth and development of her staff, expand access to technology, and increase the level of accountability for student performance.
Students at Winslow Township Middle School experienced top notch academic exposures, including new academic programs such as: Robotics STEM, Environmental STEM, Graphic Arts, Journalism and Mass Media, TV Production, and Coding and Game Design.
Once categorized as a school in need of improvement, Winslow Township Middle School now serves as a school that the Department of Education uses as an example of excellence for other schools in the area.
Winslow Middle School has become a leader in the areas of sustainability and “going green,” earning Sustainable Jersey for Schools Silver level certification, receiving numerous grants to support STEM and environmental initiatives in the school, and being recognized by the State of New Jersey and the U.S. Department of Education in 2021 with the prestigious Green Ribbon School award.
Ms. Nwanguma’s progressive outlook and her ingrained aggressive pursuit of excellence have created a school environment rich in educational resources, skilled teachers, and students who can compete with their counterparts on every level.
After eleven years of being the catalyst of change, Ms. Nwanguma continues to demonstrate enormous energy, passion, and endless Winslow pride.
