Gloucester City Man Arrested & Charged in Fatal Stabbing of Girlfriend

John Divetro, of Gloucester City, has been arrested and charged with stabbing and killing his girlfriend, Christine Madiraca.

Camden County Prosecutor, Mary Eva Colallilo, announced on August 1, 2019 that John Divetro, 51, of Gloucester City, was arrested and charged with stabbing and killing his girlfriend, Christine Madiraca, 52, on July 31, 2019.

Gloucester City Police responded to a wellness check for the victim at her residence on the 900 block of Bobwood Avenue in Gloucester City at approximately 10:11 a.m.


When officers made entry into the home, they located Divetro lying on the bed injured, and Christine Madiraca lying on the floor. It appeared that both had been stabbed.

Divetro was taken to a nearby hospital.

Christine Madiraca was pronounced deceased via telemetry at approximately 2:13 p.m.

Divetro was charged with first degree Murder on August 1, 2019, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Gloucester City Police Chief Brian Morrell. He was also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.

Divetro is currently receiving treatment. Upon his release he will be transported to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing. At this hearing, the court may order he be detained or released under Criminal Justice Reform.

The investigation is ongoing.

All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
