NJDOT Approves Funding & Construction of Creek Road Connector – Updated*

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has approved the funding and construction of the “Creek Road Connector,” providing for improved local access and the mitigation of existing traffic issues in that area.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has approved the funding and construction of the “Creek Road Connector,” providing for improved local access and the mitigation of existing traffic issues in that area, confirmed Josh Tregear, the Business Administrator for the Borough of Bellmawr.

“Additionally, this much-needed improvement also provides for an entrance point to the waterfront re-development area, substantially enhancing the commercial viability of property. The project will be funded through the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), which largely utilizes federal dollars,” Tregear wrote. “The project is currently in the concept development phase, with an anticipated completion date of late Spring 2021. However, this timeline may be condensed if no unforeseen issues arise in other phases of the project.”

SJO emailed Josh Tregear on July 25 for clarification about the Creek Road Connector, i.e. is it a part of Missing Moves, and also to request a copy a photo/rendering of the area in question.

Tregear provided the NJ DOT Concept Plan (below) and added the following explanation:

The project, from both a conceptual and funding standpoint, is ancillary of Missing Moves.

With regard to traffic mitigation:

The traffic signal currently at Creek and Harding will be moved to the new intersection created at Creek and “Creek Road Connector,” allowing for improved queuing, and should eliminate the congestion currently at both signals on Creek.

Harding will be converted into a cul-de-sac. So, the cars exiting off 42 southbound at the Creek Road exit making the hard right on to Harding will be pushed down to Coolidge or exit directly on to Creek. (Click the image below)
