On Friday, September 27, 2019, Maryville Addiction Treatment Center held its annual Recovery for Life Gala, where they celebrated its 70th anniversary, honored Philadelphia Flyers’ Paul Holmgren and welcomed MLB all-star Darryl Strawberry as guest speaker.

More than 300 guests enjoyed an evening of live music and dancing, dinner, a silent auction and engaging speeches.

Maryville presented Paul Holmgren, Senior Advisor and long-time player for the Philadelphia Flyers, with the Advocacy in Action Award. This award recognizes individuals who actively work to help those who battle addiction and/or to assist those who are in recovery whether publicly or privately. Holmgren, who has spent 40 years with the Flyers, is an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) sponsor, addiction recovery advocate and role model to his peers and players. This year marks Paul’s 25th year in recovery.

With more than 15 years in recovery, today Strawberry is an ordained minister, motivational speaker, and author. He and his wife, Tracy, operate a ministry focused on helping people achieve recovery from addiction.

During the gala, Maryville celebrated and recognized 70 years of service to the community. Kendria McWilliams, Chief Executive Officer of Maryville remarked, “Maryville’s growth and unwavering focus on quality and outcomes is the result of an outstanding staff and board, and relationships with other pillar organizations. The support we receive through partnerships, volunteer work, and financial contributions are part of the bricks and mortar that bind us.  Together we will build communities strong enough to truly support long term recovery.”
