Hunger-fighting heroes from four Zallie Family Markets ShopRite stores in South Jersey will be featured on special edition Cheerios boxes that highlight the struggle of food insecurity while also honoring members of the ShopRite teams for their hard work raising money to solve that problem.

More than 300 ShopRite stores on the East Coast of the United States participated in a fall 2022 fundraising drive that netted $1,247,260. Store employees collected donations at check-out and hosted store-based events to raise both awareness and funds to fight hunger.

Much of that fundraising took place in September, which is Hunger Action Month. Team members from the 50 top fundraising stores earned spots on the cereal boxes – including the ShopRite stores of West Deptford, Medford, Chews Landing, and West Berlin.

Photos of two team members from each of the qualifying Zallie Family Markets stores will join colleagues from other ShopRite stores on the popular cereal box.

Cheerios-maker General Mills and ShopRite cooperative Wakefern Food Corp. are co-sponsors of the friendly annual competition.

The special edition Cheerios boxes, to be sold exclusively at ShopRite stores, will be unveiled during in-store celebrations in March.

Surprise!

Surrounded by family members, co-workers, and store guests, Zallie Family Markets’ hunger-fighting heroes will see their faces on the boxes at the same time as everyone else.

ShopRite of West Deptford

ShopRite of West Deptford will recognize these team members at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 15:

Tanaya Holmes (Sicklerville) and Rachel Ann Salerno (Bellmawr).

Tanaya Holmes (Sicklerville) is the Manager and has worked for the company for 23 years. She took ownership of the yard sale event that really contributed to the store’s Partners in Caring fundraising.

Rachel Ann Salerno (Bellmawr) is a front-end cashier who has been an enthusiastic team member for 11 years. She always has a smile on her face and goes the extra mile for customers.

ShopRite of West Berlin will recognize these team members at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 21:

Joanie Messaoudi (Cherry Hill) has been working for Shoprite for 32 years. She is a pillar in our front-end department. Joanie raised the most money at the register asking customers if they would like to round up their change for our Partners and Caring charity.

Nancy DeAngelis (Medford) no longer works with Zallie Family Markets, but she plans to attend the event to see her face on the Cheerios box.

“I am so proud of these eight team members and everyone in all 11 Zallie Family Markets ShopRite stores who worked toward our fundraising goals last year,” said David Zallie, owner of Zallie Family Markets. “Helping our local communities has always been one of our core values, especially in the area of food insecurity. We wholeheartedly support the Partners In Caring program that supports more than 2,200 charities.”

Since its founding, ShopRite Partners In Caring has donated more than $50 million to soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, senior citizen centers, and other organizations that are on the front lines of fighting hunger.

In addition to contributing to the Partners In Caring fund, the recognized stores also will designate local organizations to receive part of the money raised.

The remainder will be shared at the discretion of Partners In Caring in southern New Jersey.

ShopRite of West Deptford raised $19,900 and will direct $500 donations to the Greater Woodbury Cooperative Ministry in Woodbury.

ShopRite of Chews Landing raised $15,600 and will direct $500 donations to St. Vincent de Paul.

ShopRite of West Berlin raised $12,500. The store designated Hope Church (West Berlin) to receive a $500 donation.

ShopRite of Medford raised $17,600. The store designated St. Vincent de Paul to receive a $500 donation.

Together, the Zallie Family Markets locations raised nearly $110,500.

“As a family-owned and operated business, we take the needs of our communities seriously,” said Zallie. “Participating in this contest every year, raising money that will directly and immediately affect our local families means everything. I am grateful for the opportunity.”
