Zallie Family to Open Two New ShopRite Stores as Company Celebrates 50th Anniversary

ShopRite of Center Square Plaza and ShopRite of Cherrywood Plaza Scheduled for 2023; Major Renovation of the ShopRite of Glassboro to debut November 2022.

Zallie-Somerset, Inc., announced plans today to open two new ShopRite stores in South Jersey in 2023, the same year the family will mark its 50th anniversary in the supermarket business.

A major renovation of the ShopRite of Glassboro is also underway this year.

David Zallie, president of Zallie-Somerset, Inc., announced plans to open the ShopRite of Center Square Plaza in March 2023.

The store will be newly constructed at the intersection of Center Square and Auburn Roads, across from the Woolwich Township Center in Woolwich Township.

This store will replace the ShopRite of Gibbstown upon its opening.

Plans are also in the works to open a new ShopRite in Blackwood, NJ later in 2023.

The new store will be located in the Cherrywood Plaza, at the site of a former Kmart.

The store will replace the existing ShopRite of Laurel Hill, the family’s very first supermarket in the South Jersey area when George Zallie, David’s father, opened a Shop & Bag Market there in June 1973.

The new store will be located less than a mile from the current location on Blackwood-Clementon Road.

Area readers learned about these developments last month from our friend, Mark Matthews of 42Freeway.

In addition, a major renovation and expansion has begun at its ShopRite of Glassboro, with work expected to be completed later this year.

All three stores will feature a full variety of their Zallie’s Fresh Kitchen products from their Food Service and Bakery departments.

The focus will include a special emphasis on fresh foods-to-go, custom sandwiches, and Zallie’s popular store-made recipes and specialties for easy meal prep and planning.

The catering and floral departments can service any size party or event. An enhanced organic product selection comes with an expanded produce department.

All stores will also include full-service ShopRite from Home departments to heighten their online shopping services.

“We are excited to be approaching our 50th anniversary in the grocery business with major projects and investments for our customers,” said David Zallie. “We are so grateful to be in business in the South Jersey community for nearly a half-century. Innovating the grocery shopping experience for our guests and supporting the communities we serve is our continuing focus. We are committed to providing an excellent shopping experience centered on service, variety, and freshness.”
