Berlin Borough Man Arrested & Charged In Connection With Shooting Near Rutgers-Camden Campus; Victim & Suspect Were Not Students

A 36-year-old Pine Hill man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was dropped off at Cooper University Hospital in a private vehicle.

A Berlin Borough man has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of a man near the Rutgers University-Camden campus, announced Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez, and Rutgers University Police Department Acting Chief Linne Getsinger.

On February 13, 2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers from the Camden County Police Department responded to Cooper University Hospital for a report of a gunshot victim.


Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim, a 36-year-old Pine Hill man, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was dropped off at the hospital in a private vehicle. During the investigation, it was determined that the shooting occurred on the 300 block of Lawrence Street, which runs through the Rutgers-Camden campus.

Neither the victim nor the suspect were students.

On February 14, 2024, Malcolm Jordan, 33, was charged with first-degree Attempted Murder following an investigation by detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Camden County Police Department Shooting Response Team, and Rutgers University Police Department. He was also charged with second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons, and fourth-degree Aggravated Assault by Pointing a Firearm.

On February 16, 2024, Jordan was apprehended in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force – Camden Division and the U.S. Marshals Service Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force – Philadelphia Division. He will be held at a correctional facility in Philadelphia pending an extradition hearing.
