Detectives Investigating Fatal Shooting of 20-Year-Old Camden City Man

On January 13, 2024, at 6:31 p.m., the Camden County Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation for gunfire in the area of the 800 block of Grant Street in Camden City.


Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man on Saturday evening in Camden City, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.

On January 13, 2024, at 6:31 p.m., the Camden County Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation for gunfire in the area of the 800 block of Grant Street in Camden City. A male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds was transported to Cooper University Hospital.


The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Joel Maldonado of Camden City, and he was pronounced deceased at 7:16 p.m.

This investigation is active and ongoing at this time.
