Authorities Charge Atlantic City Police Officer With Third-Degree Theft

LaQuay DuBose, 37, from Atlantic City, and a current Atlantic City police officer was charged with theft for allegedly spending a large sum of money that was accidentally deposited into his checking account.

On January 16, 2024, LaQuay DuBose, 37, from Atlantic City, and a current Atlantic City police officer, was charged with third-degree theft for allegedly spending a large sum of money that was accidentally deposited into his checking account.

On March 21, 2023, bank employees inadvertently deposited a check in the amount of $100,000 into Dubose’s checking account.


On March 27, 2023, bank personnel realized the error, withdrew the money, and closed Dubose’s account. During that time period, it is alleged that Dubose spent over $35,000 of the money resulting in this account being overdrawn by $35,903.17.

This investigation was conducted by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards and Accountability Unit.
