Ordinance Allowing Temporary Outdoor Restaurant Seating; Retail Outdoor Sales Display Areas in Brooklawn Up For Final Passage & Adoption June 15

As part of his restart and recovery plan, “The Road Back: Restoring Economic Health Through Public Health,” Governor Phil Murphy recently announced that New Jersey will enter Stage Two on June 15, 2020.

Stage Two will include outdoor dining for restaurants and indoor, non-essential retail as of June 15.

At their June 5, 2020 meeting, Brooklawn Council introduced and approved on first reading Ordinance # 4-2020, which allows for the issuance of zoning permits effective for 120 days to permit temporary outdoor restaurant seating and retail outdoor sales display areas at existing businesses, subject to zoning and construction code requirements, and other outside agency approvals

The Ordinance will be considered for final passage and adoption after a public hearing on June 15, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.

Brooklawn Planning Board to Consider Application for 3-Story Self-Storage Facility; Hearing is Aug. 28

The Brooklawn Planning and Zoning Board will hear the application of PV Asset Management, LLC “for action so as to permit redevelopment of the premises located at Block 126, Lots 7 and 10, 141 Kings Highway, Borough of Brooklawn with a three-story self-storage facility, together with associated driveways, parking spaces, and signage,” according to a recently published Legal Notice.

This application is for the two Brooklawn lots, which are designated as #2 in the photo below. This area is in between the Pennant building (which is designated as #1 in the photo below and in Bellmawr) and the Red Carpet Inn (not shown), which is Brooklawn.

The property is located in the C-Light Industrial Zone; however relief is required to permit the proposed facility in the Redevelopment Overlay, the Legal Notice reads. Variance relief is required related to certain bulk, parking, loading, and signage requirements. A landscaping waiver is also requested.


A public hearing of this appeal has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 301 Christiana Street.

On August 27, 2019, SJO learned that the Bellmawr Zoning Board will hear an application on September 17, 2019 as it relates to the property for the proposes of developing the property as a self-storage facility.

AutoZone Now Open at Brooklawn Shopping Center

AutoZone is now officially open at the Brooklawn Shopping Center location.

AutoZone occupies the space that was formerly occupied by the Ming Kui Lau Restaurant, which closed in June, 2018.

The Brooklawn Planning approved the application in early, 2018.

4th Annual Brooklawn Fall Festival October 27 Along Waterfront – CANCELLED

Article has been updated to note that the Borough of Brooklawn made an announcement on Facebook on October 24, stating: “Due to the impending nor’easter and the many calls of concern and cancellations from our vendors, it is with deep regret that we must cancel this year’s Brooklawn Fall Festival.”

The event will not be rescheduled.

Eve’s Furniture Factory Warehouse Now Open at Brooklawn Shopping Center

Eve’s Furniture Factory Warehouse celebrated the grand opening of its new location at the Brooklawn Shopping Center on October 1.

Eve’s recently relocated from its previous location on Old Gloucester Pike in Barrington.

Brooklawn Mayor Teri Branella attended the ribbon cutting and said: “It’s a pleasure having you here. We really look forward to doing business with you in town.”

    • Saturday – 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
